AML Policy

This page explains how Bitz prevents money laundering, fraud, and other financial crimes. We follow international standards and work with regulators to keep the gaming environment safe and transparent. By creating an account, you agree to these rules and confirm that your funds come from legal sources.

Why This Policy Exists

Online gaming sites can attract people looking to move dirty money or commit fraud. Bitz takes this seriously. We have a dedicated compliance team that monitors transactions, verifies users, and reports suspicious activity to the authorities when required.

Bitz.ng is owned and operated by BITZ GAMING LIMITED, RC Number 9626213, with its registered address at NO 8, ARIA ROAD GRA, ENUGU, ENUGU STATE, NIGERIA. Bitz.ng is licensed in Nigeria and regulated by the Enugu State Gaming Commission and operates under License No. EN186118.

Bitz is a designated non-financial business within the meaning of applicable Nigerian anti-money laundering law. However, in accordance with the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022 and the EFCC AML/CFT/CPF Regulations, 2024, we expressly prohibit and reject the use of our products for any form of illicit activity, including money laundering, terrorist financing, or trade sanctions violations.

Our compliance team actively monitors updates from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the Enugu State Gaming Commission and the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering (SCUML), and certain gaming trade groups to maintain high standards.

Our Approach

Bitz follows global best practices in guarding against illicit activity. Our key measures include:

  • Developing and maintaining written policies and procedures to combat money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions violations;
  • Designating a Chief Compliance Officer to oversee implementation of all compliance measures;
  • Providing regular education and training to all relevant personnel;
  • Conducting independent reviews, monitoring, and maintenance of policies and controls.

The Chief Compliance Officer is responsible for coordinating implementation of the AML programme, developing new initiatives, assessing regulatory requirements, and investigating potentially suspicious activity.

Know Your Customer (KYC)

KYC stands for Know Your Customer. We verify your identity before you can withdraw funds or access certain features. This protects both you and the site from fraud.

Bitz has adopted a risk-based approach to customer due diligence. This allows us to understand the nature and purpose of your relationship with the site and develop a risk profile for your account.

Information we collect:

  • Wallet address and email at account creation;
  • Full name, address, country, date of birth, and postal code;
  • Government-issued ID such as passport, driving licence, or national ID card;
  • Proof of address such as utility bill or bank statement;
  • Source of funds and source of wealth documentation when required;
  • Taxpayer identification number or other identification numbers where applicable.

When verification happens:

  • Before your first withdrawal;
  • When deposits or withdrawals reach certain thresholds;
  • If our system flags unusual activity on your account;
  • Randomly, as part of routine compliance checks;
  • When red flag indicators are triggered.

Bitz uses third-party service providers to verify user identity and age, confirm eligibility, and screen against global sanctions lists. We do not allow corporate entities or non-natural persons to register accounts.

Documents must be clear, unedited, and readable. Blurry photos, expired IDs, or cropped images will be rejected and slow down the process.

Geo-blocking and Jurisdiction Controls

Bitz implements strict controls to prevent access from prohibited jurisdictions:

  • IP address-based geo-blocking prevents gaming services from being offered in restricted countries;
  • Users must certify they are not subject to United Nations, Nigerian, or other applicable sanctions or watch lists;
  • Users from prohibited jurisdictions including Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria are blocked;
  • Users are notified at onboarding that Bitz does not offer services in restricted jurisdictions.

Transaction Monitoring

Bitz runs a comprehensive transaction monitoring programme using both manual and automated processes. Our systems analyse user history and activity patterns to detect and report unusual behaviour in real time. Red flags we watch for:

  • Large deposits followed by quick withdrawals with little or no gaming activity;
  • Multiple accounts linked to the same person, device, or payment method;
  • Deposits from sources that do not match the account holder’s identity;
  • Sudden changes in betting behaviour or transaction sizes;
  • Attempts to use someone else’s identity or documents;
  • Connections to countries or individuals on sanctions lists;
  • Use of anonymity-enhancing technologies such as mixers or tumblers;
  • Funding attempts from known exchange wallets in prohibited jurisdictions.

Blockchain Analysis

Every single crypto deposit and withdrawal runs through Chainalysis and is reviewed for signs of fraud or suspicious behaviour. A user’s account will be suspended and reviewed upon alert of potential illicit activity. Bitz may refuse to process withdrawals to certain high-risk addresses as determined by Chainalysis risk scoring.

Additional Monitoring Controls

We also use additional monitoring controls:

  • Ban evasion detection using software that identifies links between devices accessing multiple accounts;
  • Time zone monitoring that detects device information and cross-references it with restricted jurisdictions;
  • Prohibition of peer-to-peer account transfers within the Bitz infrastructure;
  • Blocking of anonymity-enhancing coins and tokens.

Enhanced Due Diligence

For users who show signs of suspicious behaviour or engage in high-risk transactions, Bitz conducts Enhanced Due Diligence. When red flags are triggered, the user account is suspended until further verification is complete. Enhanced verification may require:

  • Full legal name;
  • Country of citizenship;
  • Permanent residential or business address;
  • Identification number such as taxpayer ID, passport number, or alien identification card;
  • Government-issued identification document;
  • Proof of source of funds and source of wealth.

Bitz may use third-party service providers to verify this information and establish a reasonable basis to know the true identity of the user.

Who Gets Blocked

Bitz will block and suspend users who:

  • Do not provide requested identification information;
  • Provide fake or altered identification documents;
  • Try to use different means to deceive about their location;
  • Are from restricted or prohibited jurisdictions;
  • Are subject to United Nations, Nigerian, or other applicable sanctions or watch lists;
  • Show signs of gambling addiction or mental health issues;
  • Have funds originating from or exchanged in restricted jurisdictions.

Bitz reserves the right to block and suspend any account for other reasons at its own discretion.

Prohibited Jurisdictions

Prohibited jurisdictions include: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Angola, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Botswana, Belgium, Bulgaria, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Ecuador, Ethiopia, France, Ghana, Guyana, Hungary, Hong Kong, Italy, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Namibia, Nicaragua, North Korea, Pakistan, Panama, Philippines, Romania, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Sudan, Syria, Taiwan, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Uganda, United States of America, Yemen, Zimbabwe, and other jurisdictions as determined by applicable regulations.

Reporting Suspicious Activity

Bitz complies with national regulations regarding the reporting of unusual or suspicious transactions. If a customer is found to be connected to money laundering, terrorist financing, or other criminal activity, we report it to the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) in accordance with the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

We are not required to notify users when an investigation is underway. Tipping off a user could interfere with law enforcement, so certain information stays confidential.

Third-Party Providers

Bitz works with reputable third-party service providers as part of our compliance infrastructure. These include identity verification services, blockchain forensics vendors such as Chainalysis, and sanctions screening providers.

We periodically assess the performance of key third-party providers to determine if additional services are needed, if providers are meeting contractual obligations, or if remedial action is necessary. Bitz may request information from any provider as part of its vendor review process.

Staff Training

All Bitz employees receive regular training on anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, and trade sanctions compliance. Training is conducted periodically under the oversight of the Chief Compliance Officer and with assistance from legal counsel. Sessions are tailored to specific staff needs based on the latest regulatory developments and industry best practices.
